Critical Care

Do you know who to call in the event of a pet emergency?

As a loving pet parent, you never want to see your furry or scaly family member in distress. Unfortunately, unexpected illnesses and sudden accidents can occur at any time. The way you handle these types of situations can make all the difference in the world for your loved one. At Live Oak Veterinary Hospital, we want you to know that you’ve got a dedicated team in your corner. You can rest easy knowing that we’ll be there for you in your time of need.

Our hospital is equipped to provide life-saving critical care at a moment’s notice. With staff members who are experienced in emergency medicine, we can quickly diagnose the problem and deliver the most timely and effective care. Most importantly, we will handle your companion’s case with the utmost compassion, doing everything within our power to achieve a positive outcome.

Some of the signs that your pet may require urgent medical attention include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Ingestion of a foreign object or toxic substance
  • Broken bones
  • Cuts, lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Vomiting or diarrhea lasting longer than 24 hours
  • Bleeding
  • Trauma, such as a fall or being hit by a car
  • Swollen or tender abdomen
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Lameness
  • Disorientation
  • Foaming at the mouth
  • Convulsions/seizures
  • Loss of consciousness

If you notice your companion exhibiting any of these signs, it’s time to call for help right away. At Live Oak Veterinary Hospital, we always recommend calling ahead when an emergency occurs. This allows us to evaluate the situation and provide first aid instructions over the phone. It also lets us prepare the hospital and other team members for your pet’s arrival. Of course, should the nature of your pet’s emergency not allow time for a phone call, don’t hesitate to come directly in for immediate attention.

We sincerely hope you never experience the need for urgent veterinary care. If you do, however, we want you to know who to call. The team at Live Oak Veterinary Hospital will be here to provide the highest level of care available. You can count on us!

Great doctor and staff . Very accommodating for my 224lb English mastiff who is fearful. Extremely knowledgeable about all animals. Great prices. Very fair and very honest . Dr Lloyd is very patient with her patients and there humans :). She also removed a major tumor from my guinie pig. Big or small she fixed them all. My dog likes going there and although fearful he does pretty good compared to going anywhere else . I highly ,highly recommend this office. We have the best experience every time we go . My dog who doesn’t like anyone likes going there . Definitely a five star establishment

Cholia the chihuahua was attacked by two unmonitored Mastiffs and Dr. Susan saved her leg! Cho was rushed to Beaufort immediately and Susan dropped what she was doing to assist in a time of need. The hospital is a clean and updated facility, which I would highly recommend her services!
