Our Veterinarian

After attending East Carolina University for a semester, Dr. Lloyd headed to North Carolina State University to complete her undergraduate degree and earn her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. The following year, she completed an internship in poultry medicine. Dr. Lloyd then traveled the state, working for several different doctors providing relief services for a number of years, before founding Live Oak Veterinary Hospital in Beaufort, North Carolina on the recommendation of a previous employer. She has a special interest in improving the quality of life for her senior clientele and the pets that enrich their lives.

In her time away from work, Dr. Lloyd is an avid motorcycle rider and enjoys getting out on her bike whenever she can. She lives in Newport with a multitude of dogs, most of whom are retired hunters or show dogs—she still actively shows dogs after first being introduced to the coonhound breeds by a client in the mid- to late-1990s. In the 2005 Purina Race, representing the state dog of North Carolina, Dr. Lloyd hunted with her Plott hound, Budro, placed 5th overall, 1st with the breed and became the first woman to win a Purina Outstanding Coonhound title.

Additionally, Dr. Lloyd finished two of her coonhounds to Grand Show Champion and another to Grand Water Champion, Grand Show Champion, and Night Champion. In addition, Dr. Lloyd’s Bluetick Coonhound, Mike, was the number-one Bluetick in the country in 2010 and is the American Kennel Club’s first-ever Grand Champion male Bluetick!
