Compassionate Veterinary Behavior Care for Pets in Beaufort and Carteret County

Who Is Ease?

Ease is a veterinary behavior specialty service that partners with trusted veterinary hospitals like Live Oak Veterinary Hospital to provide expert support for common behavior concerns in dogs and cats. Through this partnership, your pet can receive specialized behavioral care while your trusted veterinarian remains involved throughout the entire treatment process.

How Does an Ease Referral Work?

If our veterinary team determines that your pet would benefit from additional behavioral support, we’ll submit a referral to Ease on your behalf. Ease is an independent veterinary behavior specialty service that works in partnership with Live Oak Veterinary Hospital to provide expert guidance for common behavior concerns in dogs and cats.

Once your referral is received, an Ease veterinary behavior professional will contact you within two business days to discuss your pet’s behavior concerns, explain the consultation process, answer your questions, and review any fees associated with their services before you decide to move forward.

Following your consultation, Ease develops a personalized behavior plan and, when appropriate, provides written medication recommendations directly to our veterinarians. Our team remains actively involved throughout your pet’s care, helping implement the recommendations, monitor your pet’s progress, and adjust their treatment plan as needed.

By partnering with Ease, Live Oak Veterinary Hospital can offer advanced behavioral expertise while ensuring your pet continues to receive coordinated, comprehensive care from the veterinary team you already know and trust.

Getting Started with Behavioral Support

  1. Schedule an appointment with our veterinary team to discuss your pet’s behavior concerns.
  2. We’ll evaluate your pet to determine whether medical conditions may be contributing to the behavior and whether a referral to Ease is appropriate.
  3. If recommended, we’ll submit the referral for you.
  4. An Ease veterinary behavior professional will contact you within two business days to begin your consultation and develop a personalized behavior plan.
  5. Ease shares their recommendations with our veterinary team, allowing us to continue working together to support your pet’s long-term health and behavioral success.

What Pet Behavior Concerns Can We Help With?

If you’re concerned about changes in your pet’s behavior, the first step is to schedule an appointment with our veterinary team. We’ll perform a medical and behavioral evaluation to determine whether an underlying health condition may be contributing to the problem and discuss the best treatment options for your pet. If additional behavioral expertise is needed, we may recommend a referral to our trusted behavior partner, Ease.

Common Dog Behavior Concerns

We can evaluate and provide referrals for dogs experiencing:

  • Leash reactivity
  • Reactivity inside the home
  • Separation anxiety
  • Generalized anxiety and fear
  • Fear of loud noises, fireworks, and thunderstorms

Please note that Ease does not accept cases involving dog aggression or biting. If your dog is displaying aggressive behavior, our veterinary team will discuss the most appropriate next steps and available resources for these cases.

Common Cat Behavior Concerns

We can evaluate and provide referrals for cats experiencing:

  • Litter box avoidance
  • Urine marking
  • Inter-cat aggression

If your pet is experiencing another type of behavioral concern, we still encourage you to schedule an appointment. Our veterinarians will evaluate your pet and recommend the most appropriate treatment or referral based on their individual needs.

Why Address Pet Behavior Problems Early?

Behavior changes are often one of the first signs that something isn’t right. Anxiety, fear, inappropriate elimination, and reactivity can affect your pet’s physical health, emotional well-being, and your family’s quality of life. In some cases, behavioral changes may even be caused by an underlying medical condition that requires treatment.

Early intervention gives us the best opportunity to identify medical or behavioral causes, develop an effective treatment plan, and prevent unwanted behaviors from becoming more difficult to manage. Depending on your pet’s needs, treatment may include medical care, behavior modification, environmental changes, training recommendations, or a referral for specialized behavioral support through Ease.

Why Choose Live Oak Veterinary Hospital for Behavioral Support?

At Live Oak Veterinary Hospital, we believe behavioral health is just as important as physical health. Our veterinary team takes the time to understand your concerns, evaluate your pet as a whole, and recommend the most appropriate course of treatment.

When specialized behavioral care is needed, our partnership with Ease gives your pet access to veterinary behavior experts while allowing our team to remain actively involved in their care. We’ll continue working with you and Ease throughout the treatment process to help your pet make meaningful progress and strengthen the bond you share.

I had been pretty traumatized by the vet I went to about my elderly cat being sick. I looked for somewhere else to go, and my fiancé explained the situation with the staff. We got an appointment in just a few hours from our call. The staff was very warm and friendly. They knew of our previous trauma from our newly ex-vet, so they were extra considerate to make sure we and my cat were as comfortable as possible and checked in often to reassure us. We were able to turn our fear and anxiety down a bit. I felt comfortable with them handling my baby. They brought a cute pink blanket to wrap her in to take her into the back. Truly they are wonderful. I can at least say they have extended my time with the love of my life/soulmate by at least one night so far, and have her as comfortable as they can. Hopefully, they can help us have many more nights when her blood comes back. Thank You to everyone who was on staff today. It felt good to feel cared for. Definitely our new vet and have already recommended them to friends.

Dr. Lloyd and the entire staff at Live Oak are absolutely wonderful. Our beloved cat was very sick with cancer and they were all so kind and helpful during such a tough time in our little girl's life. They were so patient with my many calls and questions during the course of our baby's illness and really went the extra mile for us at every opportunity. Unfortunately, our little girl didn't make it, but it was such a comfort knowing she had such good caretakers, and Dr. Lloyd was even there when the day finally came to help her cross the rainbow bridge. It's so hard finding people we can trust with our little family members, but these guys are it. I continue to be thankful for this team and would recommend them every time. It should be noted that our little girl could be very nervous around strangers and they handled her with care and patience.

Dr. Lloyd and her staff are amazing!! During the scary times of the COVID-19 virus, we recently had to bring our older cat in for a necessary visit. The staff met my husband at the car and took our sweet kitty inside. We were reassured our cat was being loved and comforted in our absence through the numerous phone calls they made to us while she was inside being examined. That was yesterday. Today, Dr. Lloyd called me to discuss our cat's blood work and recommend a plan and treatment in addition to what we discussed yesterday. I couldn't be more impressed with the professionalism and personalized care we've received in a time when emotions can be so high. Dr. Lloyd and her staff care for your animals as if they were their own...and we thank you!
