Slide – BG

Do you know who to call should your pet experience a medical emergency?

As a loving pet parent, you never want to see your four-legged family member in distress. Unfortunately, unexpected illnesses and sudden accidents can occur at any time. At Live Oak Veterinary Hospital, we want you to know that you’ve got a dedicated team of skilled professionals in your corner.

Our facility is well-equipped to provide urgent medical care, including a quick-turnaround in-house lab and diagnostic x-rays. With staff members who are experienced in emergency medicine, we can quickly identify the problem and administer timely and effective care. Most importantly, we’ll handle your companion’s case with the utmost compassion, doing everything within our power to achieve a positive outcome.

Some of the signs that your pet may require urgent medical attention include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Ingestion of a toxic substance or foreign object
  • Broken bones
  • Cuts, lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Vomiting or diarrhea lasting longer than 24 hours
  • Bleeding
  • Trauma, such as from a fall or being hit by a car
  • Swollen or tender abdomen
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Lameness
  • Disorientation
  • Foaming at the mouth
  • Convulsions/seizures
  • Loss of consciousness

If you notice any of these signs, seek help right away. At Live Oak Veterinary Hospital, we always recommend calling ahead when an emergency occurs. This allows us to assess the situation, provide first aid instructions and prepare for your pet’s arrival. Of course, should the nature of your pet’s emergency be too urgent to allow for a phone call, don’t hesitate to come directly in for immediate attention.

We do not charge an emergency care fee – only an urgent care exam fee. Should your pet require overnight hospitalization or advanced surgical care, we’ll discuss your options, which may include a transfer to our 24-hour emergency hospital.

We genuinely hope you never experience the need for emergency veterinary care. If you do, however, we want you to know who to call. The team at Live Oak Veterinary Hospital will be here to provide the highest level of care available.
